Connecting a Twilio account to SportsBlock will allow your organisation or club to send SMS messages through the platform. This will take at least 10-15 minutes - our team are happy to complete this process for you or on a call with you if you prefer. You can organise a time to do this by emailing [email protected]..
The numbered guide below will allow you set up a Twilio account and connect it to SportsBlock:
Sign Up on Twilio:
Enter your First Name
Enter your Last Name
Enter your Email Address
Enter your Password which has to be 16+ characters and cannot have more than 3 consecutive repeated characters.
Click I accept checkbox
Click Start your free trial
Go to your Email Address and click on the “confirm your email” hyperlink in an email sent by Twilio.
Login by entering your email address and password that you just created.
Select Australia from dropdown (+61), write your phone number and click send code via SMS.
Enter the verification code that gets texted to your phone number that you just entered and click verify.
Click Finish
Enter your phone number and click verify.
Enter the verification code that gets texted to your phone number that you just entered and click Submit.
Select SMS from the first question, “Which Twilio product are you here to use?”
Select Alert & Notifications from the second question, “What do you plan to build with Twilio.”
Click the checkbox with no code at all from the third question, “How do you want to build with Twilio?”
Select 3rd party integrations from the fourth question, “What is your goal today?”
Click Get Started with Twilio.
Read and Click Next through all 6 Tutorial steps Twilio gives.
Click get a trial phone number under the “Connect to 3rd-party applications” located in the first box towards the middle top left of the screen.
Click upgrade your account under the “Connect to 3rd-party applications” located in the first box towards the middle top left of the screen.
Enter your address for your main venue, event headquarters or competition headquarters and click continue.
Select the checkbox No, I cannot provide a tax number and click continue.
Enter the amount that you are willing to start your account balance with and also select the checkbox Yes, enable auto charge if that is what you want.
Enter your Credit card details or paypal and click confirm payment.
Click the View all numbers hyperlink to the right of the “My Twilio Phone Number”
Click Buy a Number located in the top right of this page.
Choose a country that you want that number to be from from the dropdown and also make sure the SMS checkbox under capabilities is ticked, then click search.
Then after choosing a specific number click Buy located to the right on the same row as the chosen number and also save this number as it is needed in step 34.

Click Create API key in the top right corner of the page.
Enter a name for the key, then from the dropdown select Australia from the second field and from the dropdown select Main from the third field and finally click Create API Key at the bottom.
Then copy the SID and Secret code as they will be needed in step 32 and step 33.
Then go to detailed registration on sportsblock and choose the competition from the dropdown that you want to connect twilio messaging on.
Click the Communications button.
Click the Add Twilio Credentials button.
In the second field which is called the API Key SID in the Add Twilio Credentials on sportsblock enter the SID value you copied in step 28.
In the third field which is called the Secret Key in the Add Twilio Credentials on sportsblock enter the Secret value you copied in step 28.
Then write the phone number you have just bought from Twilio into the fourth field which is called the From Number in the Add Twilio Credentials on sportsblock.
Then from the homepage copy the Account Sid from Twilio located under Account Info into the first field which is called the Account SID in the Add Twilio Credentials on sportsblock.
Click Create and now the account is ready for SMS messaging to teams and players.
